Shoreline Towers News
On October 2, 2007 the Shoreline Towers common room was dedicated to the late Robert L. Kahnweiler. The event was attended by local residents, Alderman Joe Moore, and Sheli Lulkin of the Association of Sheridan Condo/Co-op Owners (ASCO).
Mr. Kahnweiler, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, was a long-standing community leader. He took over the Fair Hardware & Gifts, which was located at 1125 West Granville, from his parents in the 1950s, eventually earning the unofficial title Mayor of Granville. For years, he was the president of one of the largest condominium associations in his community, Shoreline Towers and served on the board of directors of the Association of Sheridan Condo/Co-op Owners, commonly known as ASCO. Robert L. Kahnweiler became the president and founding member of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. He was appointed commissioner of the Chicago Shoreline Protection Commission by the late Mayor Harold Washington and was asked to serve as a member of former Alderman David Orrs planning committee. Mayor Richard M. Daley also appointed Robert Kahnweiler to serve as a commissioner of Special Service Area Number 9.
